At Alistair Stuart Driver Training, I provide automatic driving lessons in Rotherham and the surrounding area. Since qualifying as an Approved Driving Instructor in 2005, I have helped learners of different ages, abilities and confidence levels work towards their driving goals.

Learning to drive can feel exciting, but it can also feel daunting. You may be worried about making mistakes, dealing with other traffic or learning new skills quickly enough.
My lessons are calm, patient and supportive. You will be encouraged to ask questions, discuss anything you are unsure about and learn at a pace that is suitable for you.
Mistakes are treated as valuable learning opportunities. Together, we can explore what happened, why it happened and what you could do differently next time. This helps you understand your driving rather than simply being told what to do.

Experience supporting anxious and nervous learners
You may be starting lessons for the first time, returning to driving after a break or looking for a new instructor following a difficult experience elsewhere.
I understand that anxiety can affect concentration, decision-making and how comfortable you feel behind the wheel. You will not be rushed or placed in situations before you are ready.
We will gradually build your skills and confidence, beginning in suitable areas and progressing as your ability develops.
Support for learners with additional learning needs
I have a particular interest in supporting people with special educational needs and those who may have found traditional learning environments difficult.
This may include learners with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, or difficulties involving processing information, memory, coordination or concentration.
I take time to understand the individual rather than making assumptions based on a diagnosis. Instructions can be broken into manageable stages, explanations can be presented in different ways and additional time can be spent developing helpful routines.
My tuition car does not have physical adaptations. However, I am always happy to discuss your individual needs before you book so that we can decide whether my lessons and vehicle are suitable for you.
Automatic driving lessons
Learning in an automatic car allows you to concentrate on observations, steering, planning and responding safely to other road users without needing to operate a clutch or change gears manually.
Automatic lessons may be particularly helpful if you:
Have found clutch control and gear changes difficult
Feel overloaded when managing several tasks at once
Prefer the simplicity of an automatic car
Have previously struggled when learning in a manual
Want to concentrate more fully on road awareness and decision-making
You will still learn all the skills required to recognise hazards, assess risk, make safe decisions and control the car responsibly.
Learning to think like a safe driver
Passing the driving test is important, but it should not be the only purpose of your lessons.
I will help you develop the thinking skills needed for safe and independent driving, including:
Awareness of what is happening around you
Anticipation of what could happen next
Judgement of speed, distance and available space
Safe and timely decision-making
Planning before reaching a developing situation
Smooth and accurate control of the car
Rather than reacting at the last moment, you will learn to look ahead, recognise possible risks and take appropriate action in good time.
These skills will help you during your driving test and, more importantly, throughout your driving life.
More than 20 years of professional experience
I qualified as an Approved Driving Instructor in 2005 and have continued to develop my knowledge and teaching throughout my career.
My experience includes working with learners from a wide range of backgrounds, supporting nervous drivers and helping people who have found learning to drive difficult elsewhere. I also hold advanced driving and instructional qualifications and provide training for people preparing to become driving instructors.
I use this experience to listen, adapt and provide lessons that meet the needs of each learner.
Honest feedback and progress reviews
You deserve to understand how you are progressing and what you need to work on.
During your lessons, you will receive constructive feedback that recognises what is going well and identifies your next areas for development. You will also be encouraged to reflect on your driving and contribute to decisions about future lessons.
When you are approaching driving-test standard, I will give you an honest assessment of your readiness. My priority is to help you develop the skills to drive safely and independently, not simply to rush you towards a test date.
Preparing you for real-life driving
Your lessons will include experience on a variety of roads and in different traffic conditions. Depending on your stage of learning, this may include:

Independent driving using road signs or a sat-nav
Different parking situations
