Driving Licence Checks Part5
You can also check your employee's driving licence entitlement by registering to use the Driver Licence Validation Service (DLVS) if you intend to make regular licence checks. To obtain a print out of the driver record, form D796 has to be completed and sent to the DVLA. However, your employee must give permission for you to use this service. Form D796 remains valid for three years. You can also check entitlement using form D888/1, however this form is only valid for three months. Checks can also be made on the phone or by fax.

Older drivers 'becoming prisoners' at home
I have just read an article in which George Lee, who is the director of the Road Safety Markings Association, has raised concerns about the negative impact of councils turning off street lights and poor maintenance of white lines is having on older drivers. I understand the arguments regarding savings to be made with turning street lights off. However, no excuses for failing to maintain white line markings. Surely safety of all road users, no matter what their experience or age, should be the most importance consideration. Not everyone uses our roads 9 to 5 Monday to Friday.
